Description

Ipilimumab is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody specific for human CTLA-4, a checkpoint protein expressed by T cells. Binding of Ipilimumab to CTLA-4 prevents it from suppressing the T cell during antigen presentation, freeing up the antigen-presenting cell to bind to the costimulatory molecule CD28 on the T cell; as a result, the T cell is activated instead of suppressed. Ipilimumab is used to treat metastatic or unresectable melanoma.
