Eculizumab is a humanized IgG2 monoclonal antibody specific for C5 (complement 5); Eculizumab binding to C5 inhibits the terminal portion of the complement cascade. Eculizumab is used to prevent complement-mediated hemolysis and blood clot formation in indications such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
