Aflibercept Biosimilar, Human VEGFR fusion protein

Aflibercept (trade name Eylea) is a recombinant protein composed of the binding domains of two human vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptors fused with the Fc region of human IgG1. Aflibercept binds to VEGF, preventing it from binding to its receptors on many cell types, and is used in the treatment of macular edema following Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) and neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Aflibercept is a dimeric glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 96.9 kDa. Ziv-aflibercept (trade name Zaltrap) was developed as an injection for treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. This Aflibercept biosimilar has the same amino acid sequence as Aflibercept.
