Description

Adalimumab, the first fully human monoclonal antibody drug approved by FDA, binds to the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha and prevents it from activating TNF receptors, thereby downregulating inflammatory reactions associated with a variety of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, moderate to severe chronic psoriasis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Mainly produced by activated M1 macrophages, TNF-alpha mediates acute phase reactions, fever, apoptotic cell death, cachexia and inflammation, and inhibits tumorigenesis and viral replication along with IL-1 and IL-6. This Adalimumab biosimilar is a recombinant humanized IgG1-kappa monoclonal antibody.
